Tommy L. "Doc" Welcher, 67, of Rome, IA, died Wednesday, November 1, 2017, at Jefferson County Hospital in Fairfield, IA.Visitation will be held from 12 noon until 6:00 p.m., on Sunday, November 5, 2017, at Olson~Powell Memorial Chapel of Mt. Pleasant, IA, where the family will greet friends from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. that afternoon. Following visitation, according to his wishes Doc will be cremated. There will be no funeral service. Gifts of love and friendship may be given to HCI Care Service of Mt. Pleasant. On-line condolences may be directed to www.olsonpowell.com. Born February 16, 1950, in Mt. Pleasant, IA, Tommy LaVerne was the son of Eugene LaVerne and Elva Lee Jones Welcher. He was a member of the Class of 1968. A longtime employee of the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant in Middletown, IA, Doc was skilled in several aspects of the plant's operation. He retired in 2000. Known to be very social, Doc loved spending time with his family and friends, especially his grandchildren. He was a member of Eagle's Nest Club, a group of friends that would gather at the river to watch the magnificent birds. In his spare time, Doc spent time hunting, fishing, golfing, and "karaoking" with his friends at Rumors.Doc is survived by two daughters, Angie Welcher of Cedar Rapids, IA, and Jill Welcher of Mt. Pleasant, IA; three brothers, Terry "Herman" Welcher of Lowell, IA, Danny "Boone" (Shirley) Welcher of Mt. Pleasant, IA, and David Welcher of Gladstone, IL; along with six grandchildren, Chase Welcher, Courtt, Autumn Dorothy, Carissa Kobelt, Cade Warner, and Chloe Warner. Doc was preceded in death by his parents.
