Williamsburg- Thomas Dale Kessler was born November 26, 1933 in Lisbon, IA the son of George and Hilda (Filling) Kessler. He graduated from Lisbon High School in 1953 and University of Iowa in 1958 with a business degree. Tom was united in marriage to Marilyn Mally on August 31, 1956 in Cedar Rapids. To this union the couple was blessed with four daughters. Tom worked at Link-Belt in Cedar Rapids for 22 years before owning and operating Babi's Bed & Breakfast in South Amana for 15 years, retiring in 2001. His wife Marilyn died August 29, 2000. On March 2, 2002 Tom was united in marriage to Helen (Glandorf) Iburg at Immanuel Lutheran Church near Williamsburg. He enjoyed playing dominoes, horseshoes, reading poetry, working outside and watching the Hawkeyes. Tom served 3 terms as an Elder for St. John's Lutheran Church in Marengo and later transferred his membership to Immanuel Lutheran church near Williamsburg. Tom passed away Thursday, June 5, 2014 at his home near Williamsburg at the age of 80. He is survived by his wife Helen; four daughters: Susan (Merlin) Hicks of Clarinda, Sarah (Tom) Breshears of Kansas City, MO, Shelley (Mitch) Singer of Satellite Beach, FL and Stacy (Mike) Morgan of Colorado Springs, CO; a stepson: Helmuth (Christine) Iburg of Williamsburg; 6 grandchildren; 6 step grandchildren, 6 step great grandchildren and a sister: Maxine Reihman of Rogers, AR. Tom was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Marilyn; sister, Alberta Goslin; a brother, Harold Kessler and a stepdaughter, Hope Frederickson. Celebration of Life Service will be 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 9, 2014 at Immanuel Lutheran Church near Williamsburg. Pastor Richard Meyer will officiate. Burial will be at the Marengo Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the Powell Funeral Home (Uhlmann) in Williamsburg. Memorials are for Immanuel Lutheran Church or family choice.
