Thomas E. Law

Thomas E. Law, age 79, passed away Saturday, September 14, 2019 at Grinnell Regional Medical Center. Funeral Service: 10:30 am Thursday, September 19, 2019 at Grace United Methodist Church, Brooklyn with Rev. Carolyn Bittner officiating. Burial will be at Brooklyn Memorial Cemetery, Brooklyn. Visitation: 4–7 pm, Wednesday, September 18, 2019 at Kloster Funeral Home, Brooklyn. A memorial fund has been established.

Thomas is survived by his fiancée, Connie Mrachek of Charles City; two sons, Tom Jr. (Linda) of Brooklyn, Randy (Deb) of Waukee, a daughter, Lori Law of Iowa City; a daughter-in-law, Linda Law of Alleman; 13 grandchildren and 22 great grandchildren. Also surviving are two brothers, Bill (Judy) Law of Fruitland, IA, and Don Law of Martinville, TN.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Patricia Law in 2010, a son Brian in April of 2019, and a sister Peggy Bean.

Thomas E. Law was born July 25, 1940 in Muscatine, Iowa the son of E. Elwood and Mable Lewis Law. He graduated high school from Charles City in 1959 and married Patricia Plagman at the United Methodist Church in Nora Springs on July 24, 1959. To this union Tom Jr. was born. The couple then moved to Muscatine where Brian and Randy were born. In 1965 Tom graduated from the Iowa Highway Patrol Academy in Fort Dodge, then relocated to Brooklyn to work for the Iowa State Patrol where they had Lori in 1970. In the mid 1980’s he flew for the Iowa State Patrol as a pilot. He retired in July of 2000 and served as the interim sheriff for Poweshiek County. Tom served on the Poweshiek Board of Supervisors from 2002-2006. Tom and Pat loved to travel to NASCAR races and wintered in Texas for several years. They were married for 51 years. He loved to go to Canada fishing, going to casinos, refinishing furniture and his grandchildren. Tom enjoyed driving the school bus for the BGM and Grinnell Schools. After Patricia passed away he met his fiancée, Connie while wintering in Texas. Tom will be greatly missed by many.
