Thelma Young

Thelma Young, 88, of Mt. Pleasant, IA, died Thursday, June 20, 2013, at the Lake Regional Hospital in Osage Beach, MO. Visitation will be Sunday, June 23, 2013, beginning at 2:00 p.m. at the Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel where the family will receive friends from 3:00 - 5:00 p.m. that afternoon. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, June 24th, at the First United Methodist Church with Reverend Deborah Stowers officiating. Interment will be in the Forest Home Cemetery. In lieu of flowers a memorial has been established to First United Methodist Church or the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. Born February 19, 1925, in Mt. Union, IA, Thelma Nadine was the daughter of Clarence and Ruth (Hutchcroft) Fye. She graduated from Mt. Union High School. On October 4, 1942 she married Everett Young in Mt. Union, IA. Everett preceded her in death on October 20, 2006. A devoted housewife, Thelma spent many hours helping on the family farm. She was a devoted mother and grandmother who enjoyed following her grandchildren's activities along with reading stories and playing games with them. Thelma had a number of interests in her own life through the years, such as bowling, golfing, playing any number of card games, refinishing furniture, traveling and wrapping herself up in a good book. She was a member of Founder's Chapter "A" TTT and the First United Methodist Church. Survivors include a son, Stan (Kathy) Young; a daughter, Doris (Steve) Lingreen all of Osage Beach, MO; five grandchildren, Jason (Teresa) Lingreen, Megan (Roger) Seiler, Julie (James) Strandberg, Kelli (Travis) Goddard, and Todd Young; two great-granddaughters, Mia and Brooklyn Goddard; and a brother, Richard (Mary) Fye. Along with her husband, Everett, Thelma is preceded in death by her parents; and a sister Wanda Jean Fye.
