Thad Evan Millard, 44, of Rome, Iowa, suffered a cardiac arrest at his home and later passed away Wednesday, November 30, 2011 at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics. A visitation will be held on Sunday, December 4, 2011 at the First Baptist Church in Mt. Pleasant where the family will receive friends from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. that afternoon. A funeral service will be held Monday, December 5th at 10:00 a.m. at the First Baptist Church with Pastor Paul Miller officiating. Interment will be at the Oakland Mills Cemetery. In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to the Thad Millard Memorial. Born September 8, 1967 in Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, Thad was the son of Thomas and Joan (Hart) Millard. He attended Mt. Pleasant Community High School graduating in 1986. In January 1991 he married Sue Kline in Mt. Pleasant. They later divorced. For twenty years Thad worked at Schaus-Vorhies Manufacturing in Fairfield as a steel fabricator. He was a current councilman on the city council of Rome, Iowa. Known to some as the "Triumph Man," and to others as "Possum," Thad used his skills to rebuild Triumph Motorcycles in his shop, Henry County Choppers, and entered them in bike shows. He was famous for his chicken dance, and he enjoyed hunting and fishing. He especially enjoyed spending time with his children who will always consider him as their best friend. Survivors include two daughters, Jennifer Millard of Danville, and Mikayla Millard of Rome; two granddaughters, Lilly Skaggs and Destiny Wade both of Danville; his mother, Joan Millard of Mt. Pleasant; his significant other, Liz Barnett of Rome; his friend and ex-wife, Sue Millard of Mt. Pleasant; three brothers, Timothy (Elaine) Millard of Lockridge, Tony (Sheri) Millard of Mt. Pleasant, and Todd (Patty) Millard of Salem; and two sisters, Robin Millard and Rita (Gene) Huling all of Mt. Pleasant. He is preceded in death by his father, Thomas Millard.
