WILLIAMSBURG- Terry Elaine Mitro, was born February 21, 1958, in Iowa City, Iowa, the daughter of Kenneth H. Gibson and Carolyn J. Manges. Terry graduated from Kewanee High School in 1976 and the Moline Public School of Nursing in 1979. Terry then went on to receive her bachelor's degree from the University of Iowa in 2003. On August 12, 1978 she was united in marriage to Phillip Mitro at St. Marys Catholic Church in Kewanee, Illinois. They lived in Ft. Belvoir, VA, Vicenza, Italy, Ft. Monmouth, NJ, Rock Island, IL, and they have lived in Williamsburg since 1988. She was a volunteer for the Williamsburg First Responders. Terry's happiest moments were when she was surrounded by her children, grandchildren and family. She also enjoyed camping, canoeing and long drives. In Terry's professional career she worked unselfishly for 22 years to serve the Veterans at the VA Hospital. As a registered nurse she worked in many departments, but found her home as the cardiology manager of the Cath Lab. She loved going to work everyday to be with her second family. Terry passed away on Saturday, March 27, 2010, at the University of Iowa Hospital in Iowa City, following a battle with cancer, at the age of 52. She is survived by her husband Phillip of Williamsburg; daughter Stephanie ( John) Burnett; two sons Brian and Christopher Mitro all of Williamsburg; 4 grandchildren, Trevor Safina, Matthew Burnett, Bethany Burnett, Aiden Burnett; 3 brothers: Kenneth ( Jodi) Gibson of Woodstock, IL, Laurence (Jenny) Gibson of Mahomet, IL, Joseph (Lisa) Gibson of Plymouth, IN. and a uncle Wayne (Anna) Youngblut of Lisbon. She was preceded in death by her parents. Celebration of Life Service will be held 10:30 AM on Thursday, April 1, 2010, at the Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Williamsburg. Rev. Don Dovre will officiate. Burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery in Williamsburg. Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. on Wednesday at the Powell Funeral Home in Williamsburg.
