Kalona-Sylvia Jane Miller was born November 16, 1954 in Kalona, Iowa, the daughter of Earl J. and Mary (Bender) Beachy. She was baptized in her youth and was a member of the Old Order Amish Church. Sylvia was united in marriage to Sanford E. Miller on February 10, 1977. To this union were born 7 sons and 5 daughters. Sylvia passed away peacefully at her home after a lengthy illness due to heart complications at the age of 55 years and 10 months. Sylvia is survived by her husband Sanford; 12 children: Heidi Miller, Leander (Emma Marie) Miller, Sadie (Atlee) Yoder, Tobias C. (Rosetta) Miller, Daniel Miller all of Kalona, George Miller (fiance Evelyn Yoder) of Wellman, Marcus Miller, Mary Jane Miller, Jacob Miller, Gabriel Miller, Virginia Miller and Lily Miller all of Kalona; 5 grandchildren; her father: Earl Beachy of Kalona; 2 brothers: Emery (Sadie) Beachy of Hardin, Missouri and Morris Beachy of Kalona; a sister: Judy Mae (Norman) Kauffman of Smyrna, Maine. She was preceded in death by her mother, a brother: Eldon Lynn Beachy and a sister: Ella Irene Miller. The family would like to express their deepest appreciation for the many prayers and acts of kindness shown to them during this time. Funeral Service will be 9:00 am Monday, September 20, 2010 at the Miller Residence at 1060 Orange Ave. Kalona. Minister in charge is Paul T. Miller. Burial will be in the Peter Miller Cemetery. Visitation will begin Saturday at noon and will continue all day on Sunday. The Yoder-Powell Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
