Susan Marie Lockhart (Hemminger), age 80, of Colonial Manor in Amana, IA, passed away peacefully on Friday, December 2, 2022, following a long illness.
The family will receive friends from 10 a.m. –12:00 Noon on Thursday, December 8, 2022, at Kloster Funeral Home, Marengo, with a Graveside Service following visitation at Dupont Cemetery, rural Swisher. Joey Glass will officiate. Memorials in Sue’s honor can be made to The Alzheimer’s Association.
Susan is survived by her children; Leslie (Shane) Vaughn of Cedar Rapids, Robert (Suzanne) Lockhart of Marengo, Sharon Sebetka of Vinton, Sherry (Jon) Prior of Marengo, and Mickey Lockhart (Jim Bob) of Arkansas; a sister, Carol Unash; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. She was proceeded in death by her husband, William, her parents, and four siblings.
Susan was born November 18 th , 1942, in Terrell, TX, the daughter of Earl & Helen Hemminger, later residing in Cedar Rapids, IA. She married William Lockhart in 1958 and they had 5 children together.
Susan was a stay at home housewife and devoted mother and grandmother. She assisted around the farm raising greyhounds and cleaning houses. She loved to garden and bake, later working as a cook in the Amanas. She owned her own restaurant in Cedar Rapids, in Czech Village. She took great pride in her kolaches, a recipe handed down from her grandmother.
Sue’s family would like to express their gratitude to the staff, volunteers and residents at Colonial Manor, they have been a wonderful blessing over the last four years of her life.
