Steve "Frog" Farnsworth

Steve "Frog" Farnsworth, 57, of Mt. Pleasant, IA, died unexpectedly Friday, January 27, 2006, in the Emergency Room of the Henry County Health Center. Visitation for Steve will be held on Monday, January 30, beginning after 12 noon, at the Olson - Powell Memorial Chapel of Mt. Pleasant, where the family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. that evening. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 31, at 10:00 a.m., at the Olson - Powell Memorial Chapel, with the Rev. Dr. Jerry Kelly officiating. According to his wishes, Mr. Farnsworth will be cremated following the funeral service. Memorials have been established to the American Cancer Society and Mrs. Terry Mertens' Living Skills Classroom at Van Allen Elementary School. The son of Monte K. and Virginia D. Miller Farnsworth, Steve was born on October 29, 1948, in Burlington, Iowa. He grew up in New London, IA, and graduated from New London High School in 1967. Steve moved to Mt. Pleasant in January of 1982 and began a long-term relationship with Susan Stanley Hunter. On October 30, 1998, the couple was married at the First Presbyterian Church in Mt. Pleasant. Susan survives. After graduating from high school, Steve worked for Heatilator as a fork-lift driver. For many years he was a bookkeeper for J S Ice. He was a commercial driver for Ceco Buildings of Mt. Pleasant and was a mechanic at Experian for eight years. Until the time of his death, Steve worked part time for Jennings' Tire and had been a bus driver for the Mt. Pleasant School District since 2000 taking children on fieldtrips, to athletic events, and delivering them home each day. Steve loved being with his granddaughters, Courtney and Kristin Kemp. He was an avid race car fan, including both NASCAR and local races. He was a member of the Mt. Pleasant Moose Lodge #1003 and an adult committee member of the Girl Scouts of Shining Trail Council. Along with his wife, Susan, Steve is survived by one son, Michael Hunter and his wife Stephanie of Des Moines, IA; one daughter, Dianne and her husband Scott Kemp of Urbandale, IA; one brother, Paul Farnsworth of Mt. Pleasant, IA; and one sister Lila Steward of New London, IA. He is also survived by two granddaughters. Steve was preceded in death by his parents and one brother Larry Farnsworth.
