Sterling William Stoltzfus was born April 7, 1926 in Wood River, Nebraska the son of John and Laura (Beckler) Stoltzfus. He grew up in Nebraska and moved to Iowa with his family at the age of 13. On October 19, 1947 he was united in marriage to Myrtle Sutter in Milford, Nebraska. They lived in Iowa where he farmed for 10 years, then owned and operated Sterling's Feed and Seed in Williamsburg for 17 years. In 1974, they moved to Ohio where he owned and operated Phil's Flowers and Fruit for 15 years . They retired and moved to Kalona in 1990. He was active in the Mennonite churches, where he served as Sunday School Superintendent, taught Sunday School, and served as a sponsor for the youth group. He was later a member of the Kalona Mennonite Church. Sterling died on Tuesday, April 8, 2008 at Pleasantview Home in Kalona following a long illness at the age of 82 years and 1 day. Sterling is survived by his wife Myrtle of Kalona; 5 children - Ruth (James) Boller of Kalona; Donna (Larry)Wyse of Archbold, OH.; Jane (Jim) King of Archbold, OH.; Philip (Cherilee) Stoltzfus of Inola, OK.; Barb (Gary) Garber of New Paris, IN.; 17 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren; 3 brothers - Einer Stoltzfus of Kalona; Richard Stoltzfus of Johnstown, CO.; John Stoltzfus Jr. of Goshen, IN.; and 2 sisters - Grace Maye of Riverside; Verl Marner of Kalona. He was preceded in death by his parents, and 3 sisters - Elvira Yoder, Donna Stoltzfus, and Darlene Stoltzfus.
A memorial fund has been established for Mennonite Board of Missions and Iowa City Hospice.
