Stanley (Stan) Vernell Miller, 81, died at his farm in Hills, Iowa on September 9, 2013. He was born on his Johnson County family farm on November 26, 1931, the son of Murrie S. and Katie (Marner) Miller. Stan served in the Navy from 1950-1954 during the Korean War on the USS Essex Aircraft Carrier. He was united in marriage to Janet Jones January 20, 1953. They later divorced. Employment included automobile mechanic, paper carrier for Iowa City Press Citizen for 23 years. Stan enjoyed farming, the out of doors and raising cattle. Survivors include a sister, Pauline Yoder, Kalona and a brother, Wayne (Audrey) Miller, Wellman. Proceeding Stanley in death were his parents Murrie and Katie Miller and brother-in-law Lester D. Yoder. A private, family memorial service is pending. The Yoder-Powell Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
