KEOTA-Stanley Shemanski, age 81, of Keota, died Saturday, March 28, 2009, at Maplewood Manor in Keota, following a brief illness. Stanley was born August 13, 1927, near Pleasant Plain, Iowa, to Peter and Stella (Wencel) Shemanski and graduated from Pleasant Plain High School in 1944. On November 29, 1958, he married Eithel Dickson at St. Mary Catholic Church in Fairfield. The couple moved to the Keota area, where Stanley worked as a farm hand for R.F. McDowell for 35 years, retiring in 1990. Stanley was a member of Holy Trinity Parish - St. Mary Catholic Church in Keota and enjoyed gardening, farming, raising chickens and his family. Survivors include his wife: Eithel of Keota; four sons: Gary and wife Kathy of Iowa City, Jim of Pershing, Rick and wife Karen of Solon and Dave and wife Cari of Keota; six grandchildren and one sister: Louise Schillerstrom of Fairfield. He was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers: Raymond in infancy and Eugene. Mass of the Resurrection will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, April 1, 2009, at the Polishville Community Center with Rev. Charles Fladung officiating. Burial will be at Polishville Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday at Powell Funeral Home in Keota and from 9:00 a.m. until service time Wednesday at the Polishville Community Center. A memorial fund has been established for the American Cancer Society or the Polishville Society. Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Keota is caring for Stanley and his family.
