Stanley D. Savage, 62 of Des Moines, IA, formerly of Salem, IA, died Thursday, January 17, 2008, at his home. A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 26, 2008, at 10:30 a.m. at the Olson - Powell Memorial Chapel in Mt. Pleasant, with Pastors Stephen Savage and Rusty Savage officiating. Burial will be in the Salem East Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established to ANAWIM Housing of Des Moines, (an agency supporting independent living), and may be sent to Olson - Powell Memorial Chapel, P.O. Box 656, Mt. Pleasant, IA 52641. On line condolences may be sent to www.olsonpowell.com . Born April 17, 1945, in Central City, IA, Stanley David was the son of Pastor Lewis D. and Esther L. Stanley Savage. Stanley moved with his family many times while growing up. In 1959, the family moved to Fairfield, IA, where Stan graduated from Fairfield High School in 1963. A couple of years after graduation, Stan joined the United States Army, where he served for three years in Monterey, CA and the Philippine Islands. Upon his discharge from the Army, Stan worked at a variety of jobs. He then joined the United States Navy and was stationed in San Diego and Long Beach, CA for four years. Following his time with the Navy, Stan worked at a variety of construction jobs while in California. For the past few years, Stan had lived in Des Moines, IA. A musician at heart, Stan loved music and enjoyed writing, playing, and singing music. He performed with several choral groups and bands. From a very young age, Stan liked sports. As a youngster, he would entertain himself by, playing, announcing, and coaching all sorts of sports. Stan was also an avid reader. Stanley is survived by his father, Pastor Lewis Savage of Mt. Pleasant, IA; three sisters, Sharolyn (Loren) Lisk of Mt. Pleasant, IA, Joan (William) Kildow of Lancaster, CA, and Rosalie (Jerry) Padgett of LaCrosse, WI; and one brother, Stephen (Marilee) Savage of Winona, OH. He is also survived by nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews, and great-great-nieces and nephews. Stanley was preceded in death by his mother, Esther Savage, and a brother, George Savage.
