Shirley Ann Wellington, 78, of Mt. Pleasant, Iowa, passed away on Sunday, November 26, 2006, at Arbor Court after a short illness. Visitation will be held Wednesday from 9:00 - 10:00 a.m. at the Olson- Powell Memorial Chapel. A funeral service will follow at 10:00 a.m. at the Memorial Chapel, with the Rev. Henry Ledbetter officiating. Burial will be in the Forest Home Cemetery. Memorials have been established to the Faith Lutheran Church or to the Henry County Cancer Fund. Born January 20, 1928, in Des Moines County, Shirley was the daughter of Howard Sr. and Gladys Anna Zihlman Swailes. She graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School in 1946. She married Jim Wellington in Iowa City, IA. They later divorced. Shirley spent most of her adult years in Mt. Pleasant. She managed the canteen at the Mental Health Institute, retiring after 27 years of service. A member of Faith Lutheran Church, Shirley was also a member of the Mt. Pleasant Moose Lodge #1003 and the VFW Auxiliary. She loved spending time with her family, liked to travel, and enjoyed dancing and listening to music from the '40's-'50's'. Shirley is survived by two sisters, Sharon and her husband Ray Moad of West Burlington, IA, and Sally and her husband Jay Wehrle of Mt. Pleasant, IA; two brothers, Howard "Buck" Swailes, Jr. and his wife Mary of Rome, IA, and Edward "Hook" Swailes of Thompson, IL. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Along with her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by one daughter, Diana Wellington.
