Shirley Stevens

Shirley Stevens, 68, of Mt. Pleasant, IA, died Sunday, October 25, 2009, at the Henry County Health Center. Visitation will be held on Wednesday, October 28th beginning at 1:00 p.m. at the Olson - Powell Memorial Chapel in Mt. Pleasant, where the family will greet friends from 6 to 7:30 p.m. A funeral service will be held on Thursday, October 29th at 1:30 p.m. at the chapel. Burial will be at Pleasant Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials will be directed to the family. Born September 23, 1941, in Mt. Pleasant, Shirley was the daughter of Eugene Max and Ruby Leona (Parker) Woods. She married Donovan Leroy Stevens. They later divorced. Shirley worked in a diner as a waitress and as a nurse's aid at a nursing home. She also worked at Henry County Health Center and the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant in Middletown. For 30 years Shirley worked on the production line at Heatilator from where she retired in 2004. Always a homemaker, Shirley enjoyed being with her grandchildren. She also enjoyed taking care of her yard. She is survived by her daughter, Tina Sanderson of Mt. Pleasant; a son, Bob (Geri) Stevens of Batavia, IA; seven grandchildren, Sara Sanderson, Courtney Sammons, Brandon Sanderson, B.J. Stevens, Jamie Stevens, Kirk (Lisa) Stevens, and Rance Stevens; one great grandson, Zach Stevens; two brothers, James (Betty) Woods and Charles (Sue) Woods all of Mt. Pleasant; and one sister, Regina (Harold) Ackles, Sr. of Trenton. Her parents, and four sisters, Othal Woods, Ethel Woods, Mary Blythe and Willa Church all precede her in death.
