Shirley Rae Banes

Williamsburg- Shirley Rae Banes was born June 7, 1935 in North English, Iowa, the daughter of Kindred Karl and Ada Evelyn (Zillmer) Evers. She graduated from North English High School in 1952. On November 2, 1952 she was united in marriage to Larry Keith Banes at the Little Brown Church, Nashua, Iowa. Shirley worked at Proctor & Gamble, Evans Photography and the University of Iowa Hospitals. She enjoyed golfing, flower gardening, traveling, and attending her grandchildren's events. She was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan. Shirley died on Saturday, May 28, 2016 at her home in Williamsburg at the age of 80 years.

She is survived by her children: Garry (Darla) Banes of Des Moines, Kelly (Paula) Banes of Cedar Falls, Cindy (Tony Carson) Belland of Williamsburg and Lonny (Trish) Banes of North English; 10 grandchildren: Amber Engstrom of Phoeniz, AZ, Hannah Banes of Des Moines, Emily Banes of Cedar Falls, Kelsey Calkins, Blair Belland & Lexi Perez all of Williamsburg, Kiley Wolfe of Ely, Michelle Ayers of Thornburg, Lisa Vargas of Marengo and Samantha Banes of Iowa City; 8 great grandchildren: Ryker & Hazel Calkins, Kinley & Charlotte Belland, Wesley Wolfe, Miranda Ayers and Melaina & Daegan Vargas; a brother-in-law Lyle (Dottie) Banes of Granite City, IL; and a sister-in-law Irene Blaylock of South English. She was preceded by her parents, husband Larry in 2010 and a brother-in-law Leon Blaylock.

Celebration of Life Service will be held 1:00 pm on Wednesday, June 1, 2016 at the Powell Funeral Home, North English. Pastor Kirk Statler will officiate. Burial will be in the North English Cemetery. Visitation will be held 11:00 am - 1:00 pm on Wednesday at the funeral home.
