Williamsburg- Shirley Mae Meade was born August 4, 1931, near Oxford, Iowa, the daughter of Willie & Tillie (Feyerbend) Schropp. She attended school in Oxford and graduated from Parnell High School. Shirley was united in marriage to Forrest “Bud” Olson on September 11, 1951. He passed away December 16, 1962. Shirley was later was united in marriage to Donald Meade on June 27, 1975. Together they farmed Don’s family farm in Holbrook. She was a farmer’s daughter and never shyed away from work. Don passed away on April 4,2010. She stayed on the farm until moving to the English Valley Care Center in 2022. Shirley joined her heavenly family on Thursday, August 15, 2024, at the age of 93 years. Her love for us was felt each and every day.
She is survived by her children: Barry (Barb) Olson of Conroy, Brian (Jill) Olson of Vinton and Sharon Weldon of Parnell; five grandchildren: Heath (Kody) Olson of Ft. Collins, CO, Cody (Steph) Olson of Fairfax, Jenny (Jim) Olson of Hayward, CA, Jessica (Brandon) Schaefer of Missouri Valley and Patrick (Alexa) Weldon of Iowa City; 3 great grandchildren: Brayden, Kinsley and Kamden Olson; a brother Dean (Frances) Schropp of Williamsburg; her sister-in-law Marge Sauter of North English and numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded by her parents; husbands Bud and Donald; twin sister Patricia Martens; and two brothers Willie Schropp and Lloyd Schropp , 7 nephews, a great nephew, a niece and her in laws from the Schropp, Olson and Meade families respectfully.
A celebration of life visitation will be Monday, August 19, 2024, at the Powell Funeral Home in Williamsburg from 4:00-7:00 PM. A private family service and burial will be at St. Michael’s Cemetery in Holbrook. A memorial fund has been established for St. Michael’s Cemetery, English Valley Care Center or Essence of Life Hospice. Messages and tributes may be directed to www.powellfuneralhomes.com.
