Shirley Marlene Bonnater, age 75 of Montezuma and formerly Keswick, died following an extended illness on Tuesday, August 15, 2006, at the Montezuma Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Montezuma. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:30 am Saturday, August 19, 2006 at Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in North English. Chaplain Susan Leathem will officiate. Visitation will be held at the funeral home on Friday, August 18th from 6 pm to 8 pm. Burial will be in the Sixteen Cemetery near Thornburg,. IA. Messages and Tributes may be left at www.powellfuneralhomes.com under obituaries. Shirley Marlene Bonnater was born on May 25, 1931 near Keswick, IA, a daughter of John and Elsie M. Messenger Bonnater. She graduated from Thornburg High School and worked 44 years at Equitable of Iowa Insurance in Des Moines. Shirley would come home to the farm near Keswick on weekends where she tended to her horses, ponies and black angus cattle. She moved back to the farm to help her mother in1992. She enjoyed going to sales and auctions. She was a member of the American Angus Association. Shirley became a resident of the Montezuma Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Montezuma in October 2005, and died there on Tuesday, August 15, 2006. She lived 75 years, 2 months and 21 days. She is survived by a sister Marcalene (Dean)Seaba of rural Sigourney, IA.
