Shirley M. Kinney, 60, of Mt. Pleasant, IA, passed away Friday, December 28, 2012, at the Great River Hospice House in West Burlington, IA. Visitation will be held from 2 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, January 1, 2013, at Olson~Powell Memorial Chapel of Mt. Pleasant, with the family receiving friends from 2 to 5 p.m. that afternoon. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., on Wednesday, January 2, 2013, at the First United Methodist Church, with the Rev. Herb Shafer officiating. Burial will be in Forest Home Cemetery. Memorials have been established to the American Cancer Society and Henry County Relay for Life. The daughter of Albert George, Sr. and Lucy Elizabeth Daines Parker, Shirley Mae was born in Mt. Pleasant, IA, on March 23, 1952, while her family was visiting relatives. She grew up in Monroe, IA and moved with her family to Tallulah, LA, when she was in Junior High School. She was a 1970 graduate of Tallulah High School. Following graduation, she moved to Mt. Pleasant. Shirley married Stewart Linder Kinney on May 8, 1993, in Davenport, IA after being together since 1982. A hard worker, Shirley was the manager of Avco Finance, a financial manager for Heatilator, a production supervisor for XLM, and assistant to the president of Steel Works in Des Moines, IA. Shirley was most known for her talent and creation of her own business, Cherished Memories, which she started with Stewart in 1982. Most recently, she was a member of an alliance of crafters called Created in Iowa, along with continuing to run her own business. Over the past many years, Shirley spent a good deal of her time organizing and working craft shows. In her spare time, she was a member of Beta Sigma Phi, Mt. Pleasant Women's Club, and several other organizations. She was a member of First United Methodist Church. Shirley loved spending time with her grandchildren, reading cookbooks, and was a gourmet cook. Also, a wine connoisseur, she specialized in tapas and trying new recipes on her family. Along with her husband Stewart, Shirley is survived by three children, Jeremy Crawford of Mt. Pleasant, IA, Charles (Kelly) Kinney of Leicester, NC, and Brian Kinney of Mt. Pleasant, IA; two sisters, Suzann (Terry) Blomgren of Ottumwa, IA, and Sally (Tom) Haines of Mt. Union, IA; and two brothers, Glenn (Kathy) Carson of Phoenix, AZ, and Albert (Pat) Parker, Jr. of Newton, IA. She is also survived by five grandchildren, Samantha, Danielle, and Van Crawford of Mt. Pleasant, IA, and Karlie and Parker Kinney of Leicester, NC. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, David Parker; and step-father, Bill Callison.
