Williamsburg, formerly of Brooklyn- Shirley J. Niemann was born August 13, 1930, in Brooklyn, Iowa, the daughter of Howard Alfred and Mary Jane "Jennie" (Morrison) Patten. She attended Brooklyn Elementary and graduated from Brooklyn High School in 1948. On July 4, 1959, she was united in marriage to Charles Robert "Bob" Niemann, at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Brooklyn. She worked as an aide in the Brooklyn Schools and worked for the Brooklyn Chronicle and Free Press. She lived in the Brooklyn community before moving to Highland Ridge in Williamsburg in 2004. Shirley was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Brooklyn, the PEO Sisterhood and the Brooklyn American Legion Auxillary. She enjoyed golfing, playing bridge and singing in various choirs. Shirley died on Saturday, May 15, 2010, at the Brooklyn Community Estate in Brooklyn at the age of 79 years. She is survived by a son Eric & Sara Niemann of Plattsburg, MO; and a grandson Ethan Niemann. She was preceded in death by her parents and husband. Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held 1:00 PM on Tuesday, May 18, 2010, at the Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Williamsburg. Pastor Kirk Statler will officiate. Burial will be in the Brooklyn Cemetery, Brooklyn. A memorial fund has been established for the Citizens Scholarship Fund of BGM.
