Shirley J. Hecker, 67, of Winfield, IA, died Sunday, March 12, 2017, at her home in the arms of her loving husband. Visitation will begin after 12 noon on Wednesday, March 15, 2017, at Olson~Powell Memorial Chapel of Mt. Pleasant, IA, where the family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m., that evening. A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Thursday, March 16, 2017, at Faith Christian Outreach Church with Pastor Monte Knudsen officiating. Gifts of love and friendship may be given to the family, Faith Christian Outreach Church, or Great River Hospice. On-line condolences may be directed to www.olsonpowell.com.Born October 26, 1949, in Macomb, IL, Shirley Jean was the daughter of Wayne A. and Arlene Brandon McConnell. She was a 1968 graduate of LaHarpe High School. On March 21, 1970, she married Robert R. "Bob" Hecker in Fountain Green, IL. Shirley was a rural mail carrier for the United States Postal Service for over 30 years, delivering mail first as a substitute and then a full-time employee in southeast Iowa. A devoted mother and wife, Shirley loved being with her family and friends. She was an active member of Faith Christian Outreach Church, serving as an usher for many years. She was also very involved with the children's puppet ministry that traveled spreading God's love to children. A true homemaker, Shirley liked to garden and bake. She was always happy and lived life to the fullest. Along with her loving husband, Bob, of 46 years, Shirley is survived by a daughter, Shannon (Sean) Songco of Olney, MD; two sons, Chris Hecker of Winfield, IA and Wade Hecker of Kansas City, MO; four brothers, Tim McConnell, Gerald McConnell, Al McConnell, and Ted McConnell; and five sisters, Bonnie McKeown, Pat Shores, Marcia Foster, Karen Matthews, and Betty Jo McConnell. She is also survived by four grandchildren, Brittney, Makayla, Kara, and Logan and a great-granddaughter, Blair. Shirley was preceded in death by her parents and a brother, Robert McConnell.
