Shirley A. Dutton, 80, of Mt. Pleasant, IA, passed away Saturday, October 29, 2016, at the Henry County Health Center. Visitation will begin after 12 noon on Wednesday, November 2, 2016, at Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel, where the family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. that evening. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Thursday, November 3, 2016, at Calvary Baptist Church, with Pastor Mike Hess officiating. Burial will be in Salem East Cemetery. On-line condolences may be directed to www.olsonpowell.com Born on February 17, 1936, in Salem, IA, Shirley Ann was the daughter of Clarence "Bill" and Mary (Newby) Trueblood. She attended a one room school in Salem and was a 1954 graduate of Salem High School. On November 5, 1955, Shirley married Howard Dutton at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, IA. He preceded her in death on August 1, 1993. Following high school, Shirley worked at Sheaffer Pen in Fort Madison, IA, as a bookkeeper. After her marriage, she and Howard operated Howard's Precast Concrete in Mt. Pleasant, where Shirley served as secretary and bookkeeper. She continued to operate the business following her husband's death. A member of Calvary Baptist Church, Shirley participated in Bible studies and assisted with AWANAS. She loved to travel and traveled with her husband to Florida several times, continuing to travel with girlfriends following his death. Never one to be idle, Shirley was an animal lover and cared for a menagerie of animals on the farm, along with feeding the birds. She enjoyed having a large garden, freezing and canning the fruits of her labor. She loved to entertain and was often known to have a group around her table that she treated with her cooking talents. Shirley was artistic and liked to paint with oil. She was fond of the holidays and decorated her home with loving care. Shirley is survived by her daughter, Lisa (Ken) Thomas of Mitchellville, IA; a granddaughter, Kelsey Thomas of Des Moines, IA; a great-grandson, Hudson Thomas of Des Moines, IA; a niece, Debbie Pontorno of Preston, MD; and a nephew Joe (Quynh) Trueblood of Sheboygan, WI.
