Shirley Ann Brendle

July 30, 1936 — February 11, 2022

Shirley Ann Brendle was born July 30, 1936, near West Chester, Iowa, the daughter of Gerald and Ethel (Hotle) Graf. She grew up in the West Chester and Wellman area graduating from Wellman High School. Growing up, she attended the Wellman Baptist Church. She passed away on February 11, 2022 at Serene Manor Medical Center Knoxville, Tennessee, at the age of 85 from declining health.
Shirley married Harvey Spradlin in 1955 in Georgia. They were blessed with four sons. They lived in many states and Germany while Harvey served in the Army and they later divorced. She managed military stores in Tennessee. In 1982, she married Bobby Brendle and moved to Catawba, North Carolina, where she resided for many years with her husband and worked at a local pharmacy. Bobby passed away in 2000. She then moved to Knoxville, Tennessee, area to be close to family. She retired after working several years at Target in Alcoa, Tennessee. Shirley baked many cakes, batches of cookies, and peanut brittle to share with neighbors and friends for special occasions or just to cheer someone up, always sharing her love of life and love of those around her. With all of her travels and love of the southern states she lived in, her heart remained in Iowa but the mountains around her Tennessee home was always a special place to her. One of her favorite pastimes was reading. She always had a book in her hand or nearby along with a diet Dr Pepper. But she mostly loved time spent with her grandchildren.
Shirley is survived by her sons Robert Edwin (Mary) Spradlin of Port Angeles, WA, William Harvey (Sylvia) Spradlin of Greer, SC and Brian Lee (Lauren) Spradlin of Knoxville, TN; grandchildren Taylor Spradlin, Cruz Spradlin, and Madelyn (Blake)Rose; sisters Joyce (Jack) Dillon and Donna (Jon) Wade of Wellman, IA and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, her son Barry Jon Spradlin, her husband, Bobby, a grandson, Joshua Spradlin, sister Janice Martin and brother-in-law Jay Kempf.
