KALONA - Shirleen Kay Ropp, 57, of Atlanta, Georgia died on January 15, 2012. A celebration of life service will be held at 10:30 am on Saturday, February 4, 2012 at the West Union Mennonite Church in rural Parnell. The Yoder-Powell Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Shirleen Kay Ropp was born in Washington, IA on January 25, 1954, the daughter of Leroy and Edith (Gnagey) Ropp. She grew up in rural Wellman, graduated from IMS in 1972 and received her degree in graphic design from the University of Indiana Bloomington. Her career took her to Brooklyn, New York and Atlanta, Georgia where she lived the rest of her life. In 1993, she married Turner Brown and became a stepmother to two sons, Mason and Dylan. Shirleen is survived by her husband, Turner Brown, her step-sons, Mason Brown and Dylan Brown of Atlanta, GA; her parents, Leroy & Edith Ropp of Kalona, sisters Ardith Hartzler of Wellman, Diana and husband Morris Miller of Riverside, and a brother, Lamont and wife Luetta Ropp of Wellman, nieces Shawna Crile and husband Tim, Elizabeth Miller and a nephew Christian Miller, and 2 great-nephews Tyler and Reece Crile. She was preceded in death by her brother, Glenn Merlin.
