Sherleen Bodkins

South English- Carol Sherleen Bodkins was born August 31, 1933, in LaPlata, Missouri, the daughter of Ernest & Lora Vanita (Riley) Dorson. She graduated from Milton High School. Sherleen was united in marriage to Harold Schindler and they had two children, John Schindler and Deborah Schindler-Grim. After Harold's death in 1955, she married Lloyd Bodkins on February 9, 1957, in Vicksburg, Mississippi. Their family grew by six: Tam Goncz, Mike Bodkins, Ron Bodkins, Brenda Bodkins, Phillip Bodkins and Rebecca Bodkins. She was a longtime resident of the Keota area. Sherleen enjoyed her family, her flower gardens, the many animals she took into her home and country living. She will be missed by her family and friends. Sherleen died on Sunday, April 5, 2015 at her home near South English, at the age of 81 years.

She is survived by her children: Deborah (Richard) Schindler-Grim of Bloomfield, Tam (Tom) Goncz of Butler, PA, Mike (Julie) Bodkins of Altoona, Ron Bodkins of Dixon, Missouri, Brenda Bodkins of West Des Moines, Phillip (Kimberly) Bodkins of Hanna, Wyoming, and Rebecca Bodkins of Wellman; twenty grandchildren; thirty-one great grandchildren; two brothers: Riley Dean Dorson & Jim Dorson; two half brothers: Roger Dorson & Ernest Dorson; and a half sister: Erma Pierce. She was preceded by her parents, step mother, both husbands, her son John and a grandson David Schreckengost.

Celebration of Life Service will be held 10:00 AM on Thursday, April 9, 2015 at the Powell Funeral Home, Keota. Pastor Mike Bodkins will officiate. Graveside services will be held 1:00 PM Thursday, at the Sunnyside Cemetery, Milton. Visitation will be on Wednesday, from 5-7 PM at the Powell Funeral Home, Keota.
