Sharon Hiatt-Hilbrant

Sharon K. Hiatt - Hilbrant, 77, of Mt. Pleasant, IA, formerly of Fairfield, IA, passed away Tuesday, August 6, 2013, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City. Visitation will begin after 12 noon on Friday, August 9, 2013, at the Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel where the family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. that evening. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, August 10th, at 1:00 p.m. at First United Methodist Church with the Pastor Deborah Stowers officiating. Inurnment will be at a later date in Finley Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established to American Diabetes Association and First United Methodist Church. Born November 14, 1935 in Nevinsville, Iowa, Sharon was the daughter of Albert and Loretta Carson Hutchinson. She attended Fairfield High School. On December 31, 1951, she married Eugene Hiatt. Together they farmed. He preceded her in death on June 30, 1982. She married George Tom Hilbrant on December 24, 1985. They enjoyed attending the Iowa Hawkeye football games both in Iowa City and traveling to the out of state games. He preceded her in death on October 10, 1988. On August 3, 1996, she married Eldon Witthoft. For 27 years Sharon worked for the Mt. Pleasant Community School District as a bus driver. She also worked for Bezoni's True Value as a sales clerk and H R Block as a receptionist during tax season. For many years, she and her husband, Eldon, tended to the duties of the family acreage in Mt. Pleasant. Sharon was a 4-H leader, enjoyed bird watching, and loved vegetable and flower gardening. A wonderful cook, she would gather her family together over a hearty meal. She especially enjoyed traveling, and for eleven years, she and Eldon would travel to Texas for the winter months. She was a Sunday school teacher for many years in Fairfield, and was a member of First United Methodist Church in Mt. Pleasant. Survivors include her husband, Eldon, of Mt. Pleasant, IA; four daughters, Pam (Gary) Oetken of Danville, IA, Deb (Jim) Mueller of Mt. Pleasant, IA, Christy (Hal Harper) Church of Des Moines, IA, and Cindy (Mike) Tisdale of Cedar Rapids, IA; a son, Ed (Heather Gooden) Hiatt of Mt. Pleasant, IA; two step-daughters Sara (Darin) Ladlie of Fort Dodge, IA, and Susan (Ryan) Basye of Dysart, IA; a step-son, Steve (Tina) Witthoft of Mt. Pleasant, IA; twelve grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; a sister, Jan (Tony) Macri of Spotsylvania, VA; two brothers, Denny (Roe) Hutchinson of Lucas, IA, and Mike (Georgia) Hutchinson of Des Moines, IA; and a sister-in-law, Lois (Gene) Haile of Burlington, IA. Preceding Sharon in death are her parents; and two husbands.
