Sally (Sarah) Hassenfritz, 85, of Mt. Pleasant, IA, died Saturday, January 24, 2015, at Henry County Health Center. Open visitation will be from 12 noon until 6:00 p.m., with no family present, on Tuesday, January 27, 2015, at the Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel. An Irish Wake will be held from 5:00 until 8:00 p.m., at Arbor Village South, on the corner of South Jefferson Street and South Street, where family and friends will have the opportunity to share stories and memories of Sally. A funeral mass will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Wednesday, January 28, 2015, at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, with the Rev. Joseph Phung officiating. Memorials have been established to Henry County Habitat for Humanity and The Fellowship Cup. Sarah Ann Hassenfritz was born on September 10, 1929, to John and Mary Moehn Boyle in Burlington, IA. She was a 1947 graduate of St. Paul's Catholic School in Burlington. On February 7, 1948, Sally married William Lee "Bill" Hassenfritz in Burlington. He preceded her in death on October 30, 2011. Following her marriage, Sally moved to Mt. Pleasant where she began her life-long role as a mother. Along with devoting her life to her family, she was an active community member. Sally was a member of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, served on the building committee, worked on the Old Threshers Committee, participated in the Altar and Rosary Society, and was active in Ladies for Charity. Sally was a member of the church choir since moving to Mt. Pleasant in 1948. A tireless worker for the American Cancer Society, Sally established Daffodil Day, served as unit president and crusade chairman, along with assisting in all program areas. Because of her efforts, she was awarded the Harold W. Morgan Award in 1989. She served as a Henry County Health Center Trustee for 32 years and was a member of the Harlan Questers for over 25 years where she served as president twice. Sally was a member of Chapter DD of T.T.T. Sally's greatest love was her family. She enjoyed boating on the Mississippi River, traveling, and vacationing at her cottage on Lake Michigan. She treasured anything Irish and would look for any reason to have a party. Sally is survived by four children, Jim Hassenfritz of Burlington, CO, Marti (Jerry) Roling of Cedar Falls, IA, Tom (Kimn) Hassenfritz of Mt. Pleasant, IA, and Joe "Tim" (Jean) Hassenfritz of Rosemount, MN. Sally is also survived by nine grandchildren, Patrick Hassenfritz, Anna (Ben) Anderson, Brad (Amy) Roling, Tamara Roling, Jess Hassenfritz, Libbe Hassenfritz, Ian Hassenfritz, Jenny Hassenfritz, and Jon (Allison) Hassenfritz; five great-grandchildren, Makenzie and Brady Roling and Ben, Evelyn, and Eloise Hassenfritz; and a niece, Mary Ann McLauchlin. Along with her husband Bill, Sally was preceded in death by two sisters, Mary Hensley and Martha Clayton.
