KALONA - Sarah Miller Helmuth was born August 30, 1927 in Kokomo, Indiana, the daughter of Menno and Katie (Schlabach) Mast. She grew up in Indiana and moved to Iowa in 1945. On October 7, 1947 she was united in marriage to Edward F. Miller in Kalona. They made their home in rural Kalona where Sarah was a homemaker. Sarah and Edward spent 2 years involved in mission work in Ukraine. Edward died in September of 2006. On September 29, 2007 she was united in marriage to Eli C. Helmuth in Kalona. Eli died in October of 2008. She was a member of the Sharon Bethel Church. Sarah died Sunday, May 2, 2010 at her home in rural Kalona at the age of 82 years. Sarah is survived by 6 children David Lee Miller (Martha) of Kalona; Lucy Stoltzfoos (Roman) of Kinzers, PA; Elaine Miller of Kalona; Evelyn Miller (Steve) of Hutchinson, KS; Nancy Miller of Iowa City; Louise Miller of Kalona; stepson L.J. Helmuth (RoseMary) of Whiteville, TN; 26 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; 5 step grandchildren; 3 step great grandchildren; and a sister - Mary Hershberger (Mark) of Kalona. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands Edward Miller and Eli Helmuth; 3 sons - Arden, and infants Raymond and Howard; a daughter Mary Catherine Miller; 3 brothers - David Mast, Andrew Mast, and infant Abraham Mast; 2 sisters - Esther Mast and infant Susanna Mast. Funeral Services will be 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 5, 2010 at the Sharon Bethel Church in rural Kalona. Ministers in charge are Jacob Yoder, Delmar Bontrager and Gabriel Beachy. Burial will be in the Sharon Bethel Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2-8 p.m. on Tuesday at the Sharon Bethel Church where the family will be present from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday. The Yoder-Powell Funeral Home in Kalona is in charge of the arrangements.
