Sandra K. Frakes, 72, of Mt. Union, IA, died Thursday, November 15, 2012, at her daughter's home. Sandra was a kidney transplant recipient seven years ago, and has chosen to donate her body to the Carver College of Medicine at the University of Iowa for scientific research. There will be no services, but her wishes are for family and friends to gather, as they are able, for a meal to share memories and appreciate one another. Memorials have been established to Great River Hospice and the University of Iowa Kidney Transplant Unit. Those wishing to donate to a memorial may send it to Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel, P.O. Box 656, Mt. Pleasant, IA, or deliver the donation to 709 E. Mapleleaf Drive during normal business hours. Born August 15, 1940, in Fairfield, IA, Sandra Kay was the daughter of Fred and Jenny Darlene (Howe) Baker. She received her education in the Des Moines school system. On April 20, 1958, she married Roger N. Frakes in Des Moines, IA. Sandra worked as a machine operator for Universal Plastics and the Chain and Cable Company, both in Fairfield. For many years she worked in housekeeping at the Jefferson County Hospital, from which she retired. Sandra was of the Christian faith and had attended the Methodist Church in Richland. She was known for her crocheting and won numerous prizes for her afghans, baby outfits and other crafts which she made for family members and friends. Sandra was an avid animal lover, and was known for her hospitality to dogs, cats, squirrels and skunks. Survivors include her husband, Roger of Richland, IA; a daughter Darla Frakes of Mt. Union, IA; two sisters, Jolene (Clifford) Jones and Margo Jones, all of Princeton, MO; two brothers, Johnny Dale (Cindy) Baker and James Baker, all of Princeton, MO. She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, William Earl; and a daughter, Susan Marie.
