SIGOURNEY-Samuel D. "Don" Easter, age 86, of Sigourney, died Tuesday, February 15, 2005, at the Parkview Manor in Wellman following a lengthy illness. Don was born October 1, 1918, in Ottumwa, Iowa to Samuel D. and Ellen (Smith) Easter and graduated from Sigourney High School in 1936. He served in the 1252nd Army Air Force Battalion in the European Theatre from 1941 until 1945, where he earned the rank of Master Sergeant. On September 10, 1946 he married Bonnie Reeves in Tracy, Iowa. Don was a foreman at the Keokuk County Yards for several years and retired from Herman M. Brown Company of Des Moines/Cedar Rapids in 1984, after 31 years of employment. He was a very active member of the Sigourney United Methodist Church and taught Sunday School for many years. Don was an avid Hawkeye fan and enjoyed fishing, hunting, reading, tinkering and spending time with family. Survivors include his wife: Bonnie of Sigourney; daughter: Mary Easter-Schwada and husband Nolan of Ankeny; son: Donald Easter of Ankeny; three grandchildren: Timothy Easter, Chad Easter and Natalie DeRegnier. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister: Marian Ruth Easter and his grandparents: John and Mary Smith. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, February 18, 2005, at the Sigourney United Methodist Church with Rev. John Hembry officiating. Burial will be at Pleasant Grove Cemetery, with military rites by the Lacey Kerr V.F.W. Post #2308 and Am. Legion Post #19. Taps will be furnished by members of the 34th Army Band from Fairfield. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. Thursday, February 17, 2005, at the Reynolds-Powell Funeral Chapel in Sigourney. A memorial fund has been established for the Sigourney United Methodist Church. Reynolds-Powell Funeral Chapel and Cremation Service in Sigourney is handling the arrangements.
