Washington-Samuel Joseph Berg was born March 21, 1957 in Ottumwa, Iowa the son of Bernard and Cleo (Davis) Berg. He graduated from Mid-Prairie High School in 1975. Sam was united in marriage to Pamela Tolander on July 3, 1999 in Washington, Iowa. Sam has farmed near Wellman, worked for the Washington Care Center as a CNA and for Northrup King in Lone Tree. Sam died Saturday, October 14, 2006 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City after a lengthy illness at the age of 49 years. He is survived by wife Pam of Washington; a daughter: Nicole (Eric) Strand of Keota; two step children: Lonnie Tolander of Tulsa, OK and Lisa Nielsen of Washington; two grandchildren: Kolton and Conner Strand; two step grandchildren: Madisen and Braeden Nielsen; his parents: Bernard and Cleo Berg of Wellman; two sisters: Pat (Terry) Kroemer of Lowden and Sandi (Glenn) Rowe of Wellman; a brother: Dennis Berg of Wellman and a number of aunts and uncles and nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his grandparents. Funeral Mass will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, October 17, 2006 at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Wellman. Fr Rich Adam will officiate. Burial will be in the Wellman Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 4 to 8 pm at the Powell Funeral Home in Wellman where there will be a prayer service at 7:00 pm.
