Sally Sue Wehrle

Sally S. Wehrle, 80, of Mt. Pleasant, IA, died Sunday, June 7, 2015, at the Pleasant Manor Care Center.Visitation will be held on Thursday, June 11, 2015, beginning after 12 noon, at the Olson-Powell Memorial Chapel, with the family greeting friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. that evening. A funeral mass will be held at 11:00 a.m., on Friday, June 12, 2015, at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, with Father Bruce DeRammalaere, celebrant. Burial will be in the Grant Cemetery, near Rome, IA, at a later date. Memorials have been established to Grant Cemetery or St. Alphonsus Catholic Church in her memory. On line condolences may be directed to www.olsonpowell.com.Born December 13, 1934, in Rome, IA, Sally Sue was the daughter of Howard and Gladys (Zihlman) Swailes. She was a 1953 graduate of Mt. Pleasant High School. On November 21, 1959, she was united in marriage to Jay "Pete" Wehrle at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, IA. Shortly after high school graduation, Sally enrolled at Mount Mercy College, in Clinton, IA, where she received her degree as a registered nurse. For several years she practiced nursing in the Mt. Pleasant area. Sally was employed as a Henry County public health nurse for 15 years prior to her retirement in the early 1990s. Sally was a member of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church. Family was of the highest priority for her. She was a wonderful grandmother whose favorite pastime was spending time with her grandchildren. Sally liked to travel with her husband. She was a terrific cook, an avid reader, and had a green thumb. She enjoyed gardening, growing flowers, and raising Boston ferns. Having a creative touch, Sally spent many hours doing a variety of crafts for her personal enjoyment. Along with her loving husband Jay "Pete" Wehrle of Mt. Pleasant, IA, Sally is survived by one son, Mike (Kimberly) Wehrle of Little Rock, AR; two daughters, Lisa O'Donnell of Cedar Rapids, IA, and Susan (Josh) Day of Batavia, IL; and a sister, Sharon Moad of Burlington, IA. Also surviving are seven grandchildren; Tyler, Luke, Rachael, Caroline, Emma, Caden, and Cece. Preceding Sally in death, were her parents; two brothers, Edward Swailes and Howard Swailes; one sister, Shirley Wellington; and a niece Diana Wellington.
