KEOTA-Ryan Detweiler, age 24, of Keota, died Sunday, May 3, 2009, at University of Iowa Hospitals in Iowa City, the result of an automobile accident. Ryan was born August 4, 1984, in Iowa City, to Dennis and Cindy (Sheets) Detweiler and graduated from Keota High School in 2003. On January 24, 2009, he married Katie Peck at the United Church of Faith in Keota. A lifelong resident of Keota, Ryan worked for One Brother Construction. He was a member of the Lone Tree Garden Tractor Pullers Association. "The Shop" was his home away from home, where he spent many hours working on pulling tractors and visiting with his friends. Ryan especially enjoyed his children and Dodge trucks. Survivors include his wife: Katie; two children: Dakota and Lexus; mother: Cindy Detweiler; grandparents: Merlyn and Mary Ellen Detweiler and Dianna Sheets, all of Keota; several aunts, uncles, cousins and best friend: Brian Lewis. He was preceded in death by his father: Dennis Detweiler and grandfather: Joel Sheets. Celebration of Life Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, May 6, 2009, at St. Mary Catholic Church, with Rev. Dennis Hopes officiating. Burial will be at Keota Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 5, 2009, at Powell Funeral Home in Keota. A memorial fund has been established for his children, Dakota and Lexus. Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Keota is caring for Ryan and his family.
