Ruth Vanora Miller was born Sunday, March 4, 1917, near Kalona, Iowa, the daughter of Noah J. and Ada Hershberger Yoder. Her father, Noah, died when she was a young girl and her mother then married Ira Nissley. Ruth was united in marriage to Tobias J. M.iller on February 10, 1938 near Kalona. In her youth, Ruth accepted Christ as her Savior and was baptized into the Old Order Amish Church where she remained faithful throughout her life. Ruth died Monday, July 3, 2006 at her home near Kalona of congestive heart failure at the age of 89 years, 3 months and 29 days. She was a homemaker and lived her entire life in the Kalona community. Ruth is survived by her ten sons: Amos T. Miller and wife Elsie - Alvin T. Miller and wife Martha - Elmer T. Miller and wife Clara - Paul T. Miller and wife Mary - Eldon T. Miller and wife Nelda - Simon T. Miller and wife Ruby Ann all of Kalona - Jerry T. Miller and wife Irene of Pearisburg, Virginia - Henry T. Miller and wife Edna of Kalona - Perry T. Miller and wife Edna and Earl T. Miller and wife Carol all of Windsor, Missouri; 85 grandchildren, 162 great grandchildren; a brother: Alvin C. Yoder of Hutchinson, Kansas; a sister: Susan, Mrs. Glen Beachy of Kalona; a brother in law Henry Mast of Glendale, Arizona and a step brother, David Nissley, of Arthur, Illinois. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Tobias on May 18, 1996, four grandchildren, one great grandchild, a sister Wilma Mast and two brothers: Simon and Joseph Yoder; three step sisters: Irene Bender, Ellen Nissley and Bertha Helmuth and a step brother Eli Nissley. Funeral Services are set for 9:30 a.m. Thursday, July 6 at the Paul T. Miller residence at 1177 Orange Ave. near Kalona with Bishop Vernon Yoder in charge. Burial will be in the Peter Miller Cemetery. Visitation will be at the Paul T. Miller residence on Tuesday, July 4th, and Wednesday, July 5th. Yoder-Powell Funeral Home, of Kalona, is in charge of arrangements.
