Ruth Marie Miller was born June 29, 1921 at her parents home in rural Wellman, Iowa the daughter of Chris and Matilda (Swartzendruber) Gingerich. She attended Greene Center School and West Union Mennonite Church in her youth. In 1940 Ruth graduated from Parnell High School. She then went on to attended Cedar Falls Teacher's College in the summer, and taught one room country grade schools for six years. She attended classes at Hesston College one year and studied one summer at Goshen College. In 1944-45 she did Child Evangelism work in Denver, Colorado. Ruth was united in marriage on December 28, 1947 to D. Max Miller at the Wellman Mennonite Church. They lived north Wellman where they farmed. Ruth was a member of the Wellman Mennonite Church, where she enjoyed teaching summer bible school and Sunday school as well as attending WMSC as long as her health permitted. Ruth died on Sunday, November 18, 2012 at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City at the age of 91 years. Ruth is survived by her son Rex Miller of Wellman. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband D. Max Miller; and three half brothers; Jerry, Leroy and Aldine Gingerich and a half sister Luella Blosser. Celebration of life service will be held 10:00 a.m Wednesday, November 21, 2012 at the Wellman Mennonite Church in Wellman. Pastor Nathan Ramer will officiate. Burial will be held at the Wellman Mennonite Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2-8 p.m. at the Powell Funeral Home in Wellman. A memorial fund has been established for Wellman Mennonite Church.
