Ruth Mary Johnson of Rockford, TN, formerly of the Mt. Pleasant and Burlington, IA communities, died peacefully on Monday, June 26, 2017, at her daughter Karen's home at age 92. A visitation will be held at Olson Powell Memorial Chapel, 709 East Mapleleaf Drive, Mt. Pleasant, IA from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM on Sunday July 2, 2017. Graveside services will be held at 10:00 AM on Monday, July 3, 2017 at Prairie Grove Cemetery, rural West Burlington, IA with the Rev. Charles Stevens officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Disabled American Veterans (DAV.ORG). On line condolences may be directed to www.olsonpowell.com Born September 30, 1924 in Webster, SD, Ruth Mary was the daughter of Fred and Elizabeth (Schmitz) Splonskowski. Ruth moved to North Dakota when she was 4, and later to Eugene, OR, where she attended St. Mary Catholic School. While in Oregon, Ruth met Charles Johnson, who was in the Navy. They were married, June 6, 1945, in Klamath Falls, OR. She accompanied Charles on trips while he drove semi-trucks. They moved to Iowa, and Ruth traveled with Charles while he completed his military service. They were happily married for 57 years. He preceded her in death on November 29, 2002.Ruth was a homemaker and farmer's wife in the White Oak community, near Mt. Pleasant. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, being a mother of six children, and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. After living in Burlington for more than 12 years, she moved to her daughter Karen's home in Rockford, Tennessee, where she had two loving caregivers. Ruth is survived by three sons, Ed (Susan) Johnson of Burlington, IA, Fred (Peggy) Johnson of West Burlington, IA, and Bob Johnson of Mt. Pleasant, IA; three daughters, Mary (Curt) Wigger of Knoxville, TN, Shirley (Faron) Springer of Henderson, NV, and Karen Johnson of Rockford, TN; five grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; two brothers, James Splonskowski and Richard Splonskowski, of Eugene, OR, one sister, Marge Splonskowski, of Seattle, WA; several nieces and nephews, and other relatives.Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Charles, and several brothers and sisters.
