Ruth Marie Irene Gahring

Williamsburg- Ruth Marie Irene Gahring was born October 21, 1922 in rural Iowa County the daughter of Martin and Elisa (Sandersfeld) Kleinmeyer. On November 19, 1922 Ruth was baptized at Immanuel Lutheran Church and was confirmed on April 5, 1936 at St. Paul Lutheran Church. Ruth was united in marriage to Dwight Albert Gahring on March 1, 1941 in Birmingham, Iowa. Ruth worked a short time for Pioneer Hybrid Seed Corn in Marengo before devoting her life to being a homemaker and mother. She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church, Ladies V.F.W. Auxiliary, L.W.M.L. and Women's Guild. Ruth enjoyed golf, bowling, traveling and spending time with family. Ruth passed away Thursday, February 18, 2016 at Highland Ridge Care Center in Williamsburg at the age of 93 years.


Ruth is survived by three children: a daughter: Susan (Stephen) Ahrens of Conroy; two sons: Bill (Melanie) Gahring of Leesburg, GA. and Dale (Barb) Gahring of Williamsburg; 14 grandchildren; 29 great grandchildren; 3 great great grandchildren; two daughters-in-law: Barb Gahring of Texas and Myra Gahring of Williamsburg; two sisters-in-law: Marianne Ochltree of Victor and Dorothy Kleinmeyer of Williamsburg. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, a daughter Linda Faye in infancy, two sons: Ronald and Donald Gahring; two sisters: Flora Stohlmann and Maxine Wardenburg and a brother Charles Kleinmeyer.

Celebration of Life Service will be 10:30 am on Monday, February 22, 2016 at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in Williamsburg. Burial will be in the St. Paul Lutheran Church Cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday from 3:00 to 6:00 pm at the Powell Funeral Home in Williamsburg. There will be a Ladies VFW Auxiliary Service at 6:00 pm.
