Ruth K. Looker, 99, of Mt. Pleasant, IA died Wednesday, September 15, 2010, at the Henry County Health Center. An open visitation will be held on Sunday, September 19, 2010, from 1-6 p.m. at Olson - Powell Memorial Chapel in Mt. Pleasant. There will be no family visitation time. A funeral service will be held on Monday, September 20, at 10:00 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church with Pastor Debra Savage officiating. Burial will be in the Forest Home Cemetery. In lieu of flowers memorials have been established to the First Presbyterian Church and Founders' Chapter A of TTT. Ruth Knowlton Crane, the daughter of Ralph Knowlton and Grace Pyle Crane, was born June 20, 1911, in Mt. Pleasant, IA. She was a lifetime resident of Mt. Pleasant where she graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School and Iowa Wesleyan College. On February 7, 1936, she married Stanley J. Looker at the home of her parents. Stanley preceded her in death on March 10, 1971. Ruth was a homemaker. At one time she worked part time at Spurgeons and J. C. Penney. She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church of Mt. Pleasant, where she had served as a Sunday School Teacher, an Elder and a Deacon. She was also a member of the Mariner's Group at the church. Ruth's other memberships include the Founders' Chapter A of TTT, Chapter NZ of PEO, the Beta Chapter of Alpha Xi Delta Sorority, the Mentor Club, the Wednesday Club and the Pleasantique Chapter of Questers. Ruth also served as a leader in the Girl Scouts and the Boy Scouts. For 50 years she had been a volunteer for Midwest Old Threshers. In addition to her many memberships, Ruth served on the Henry County Hospital Board and the Iowa Wesleyan Alumni Board. Ruth's hobbies include needlepoint, craftwork, enjoyed playing bridge and spending time with her family. Ruth is survived by one son, Richard (Joanne) Looker of Mt. Pleasant, IA, and one daughter, Jean (Bob) Potter of Walcott, IA. Her family also includes seven grandchildren, twenty-four great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. Family members who have preceded her in death include her parents, her husband, Stanley, and a sister Mary Ewart.
