Ruth Housh

Ruth E. Housh, 77 of Mt. Pleasant, IA, died Tuesday, July 23, 2013, at Mercy Hospital in Iowa City. Visitation will begin at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, July 26, 2013, at Olson~Powell Memorial Chapel, where the family will greet friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. that evening. Funeral services have been postponed due to the passing of Mrs. Houshs husband, Byron on Friday. The combined funeral for Ruth and Byron will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday,July 30, 2013, at Calvary Baptist Church with Pastor Mike Hess officiating. Memorials have been established to Calvary Baptist Church and Hospice of Central Iowa. The daughter of George D. and Muriel Long Hummell, Ruth Elaine was born on September 17, 1935, in Mt. Pleasant. A life-long resident of Mt. Pleasant, she was a 1953 graduate. On June 27, 1953, she married Byron Keith Housh in Mt. Pleasant. Working in production, Ruth was employed by Universal of Fairfield, Ceco, Metromail, Wal-Mart, Alaniz Sons, and most recently Motorola. Raising an active family and being employed full-time kept Ruth busy. She was especially known for her baking and Sunday dinners, where she was able to spend time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Ruth was an involved member of Calvary Baptist Church. She enjoyed local travel, needlepoint, and flower and vegetable gardening. Along with her husband, Byron, Ruth is survived by four children, John (Kim) Housh, Paul (Kelly) Housh, Linda (Harold) McShane, and Cindy (Dan Ross) Carter, all of Mt. Pleasant, IA; a brother, Kenny (Karen) Hummell and a sister, Velma Billingsley, both of Mt. Pleasant, IA; nine grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents and nine brothers and sisters.
