Ruth Ann Gorsh

Ruth Ann (Faas) Gorsh of North English, age 84, passed away on May 25th, 2023, at the Compass Memorial hospice suite in Marengo following a battle with cancer. 

Ruth was born on September 19th, 1938, at her family home near Millersburg, the daughter of Floyd and Irene (Hinrichs) Faas. She was baptized on October 9th, 1938, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Millersburg, and confirmed there on June 15th, 1952. She was a lifelong member of Trinity until its closing, serving the Lord in many ways.

Ruth attended Row's Hill Country School, Pilot Township, then Millersburg Consolidated School, where she excelled at academic, athletic, and extra-curricular activities. She graduated in 1957, and was united in marriage to Charles Gorsh on June 9th, 1957, at Trinity Lutheran Church. She did part-time work while raising her family, and later worked at the English Valleys Care Center for 20 years. Serving God, and caring for her family and friends were most important to Ruth.

She is survived by four children: Jeffrey (Martha) Gorsh, Kimberly (Curtis) Wilkerson, Karen (Tom) Kerper, and Christine (Phil) Hester; seven grandchildren: Christopher and Zachary Gorsh, Ashley Cook, Dana Sheehan, Brooke Wilkerson, and Dean and Emma Hester; one step-grandchild: Amanda Meyer; eleven great-grandchildren and four step-great-grandchildren; a sister: Reverend Esther Dant; brother: Richard (Doris) Faas; and sister-in-law: Elaine (Donald) Faas.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, brothers: Robert and Donald Faas; sisters: Marilyn Pruess and Phyllis Bauer; brothers-in-law: Vernon, Russel, Carol, Alfred, and Cecil Gorsh; and sisters-in-law: Mabel Runyan, Mary Osweiler, Vernita Nowotny, and Mildred Moore.

Memorial services will be held at Hope Lutheran Church, Sigourney on Saturday, June 10th. There will be a short visitation at the church from 10-11 AM, followed immediately by a memorial service. Memorial gifts will be distributed to Hope Lutheran Church, Compass Memorial Hope for All, North English First Responders, and P.I.N.E. Her body was donated to The University of Iowa. A family graveside service will be held at a later date.
