Keota Dateline Ruth Ginkens, age 92, of Keota, died following a brief illness on Saturday, March 4, 2006 at Maplewood Manor in Keota. Ruth Adelaide Ginkens was born on May 31, 1913 in Cedar County, IA, the daughter of Lyle and Annis Albaugh Morden. She grew up in Iowa City and attended school there. On July 16, 1932, Ruth was united in marriage to Willard Harlow Ginkens in Aledo, IL. After their marriage they made their home in Ainsworth. In 1937 they moved to the Keota community. Ruth was a clerk and assistant buyer at A.A. Hulse & Co. in Keota for thirty years and worked as a library aide at the Wilson Memorial Library in Keota for nearly six years. Ruth was a member of the United Church of Faith in Keota where she was active in the UMW, serving a term as president and on the church board of directors. She was a member of the Sunny Side Card Club, the 76 Community Club and volunteered at the Senior Center. She is survived by a daughter, Marylin Byerley of Spokane, WA; two sons: Donald Ginkens and wife Nathaleen of Knoxville, IA; Ronald Ginkens and wife Jamie of Chariton, IA; 11 grandchildren; 18 great grandchildren; four great great grandchildren; two sisters: Violet Nelson of Iowa City, IA and Betty Campbell of Kalona, IA. Ruth was preceded in death by her parents, husband Willard, a son James Ginkens, two sisters, one daughter-in-law, one grandson and one great grandson. A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, March 7, 2006 at the Powell Funeral Home in Keota with the Rev. Sallie Graves officiating. Burial will be at Keota Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home on Monday, March 6, 2006. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Washington County, The United Church of Faith or the Wilson Memorial Library.
