Ruth Ellen Couch was born August 26, 1921 in Kennett, Missouri the daughter of Clarence and Lilly (Amick) Moore. She graduated from Normandy High School in Normandy, Missouri. On June 14, 1940 she was united in marriage to John "Dick" Couch in Normandy. They lived in St. Louis County before moving to Bowling Green, Missouri where they lived for 20 years. Ruth worked as an inspector for Emerson Turuit for 3 years, then worked in food service for Bowling Green School System for 12 years. They then moved to West Plains, Missouri where they lived 25 years before moving to Kalona in November of 2000. Ruth was a member of the First Baptist Church in West Plaines, Missouri where she was very active and held many offices; she was also a member of the Federated Study Club. Since moving to Kalona she attended the Kalona Mennonite Church. Ruth died suddenly on Monday, March 12, 2007 at her home in Kalona at the age of 85 years. Ruth is survived by her husband John "Dick" Couch of Kalona; 2 daughters - Julie Griffith of St. Louis, Missouri; June Miller and husband Marlin of Kalona; 5 grandchildren - Darin Griffith, Kyle Griffith, Courtney Holycross, Jamie Trueblood, Shanda Hershberger; and 4 great grandchildren - Alexia Holycross, Tristen Griffith, London Hershberger and Camden Hershberger. She was preceded in death by her parents; 2 great grandchildren - Kai and Boston Hershberger; 2 brothers - Everett Moore, Burley Moore; and 2 sisters - Lucille Davis and Polly Moore.
A memorial fund has been established for the Kalona Mennonite Church.
