KESWICK-Ruth E. Shepherd, age 96, of Keswick, formerly of Sigourney, died Saturday, December 8, 2007, at the Keokuk County Health Center in Sigourney, from complications of age. Ruth was born April 30, 1911, in Gentry County, Missouri. At the age of seven Ruth and her sister, Rubie, were adopted by Bert and Alda (Ulin) Fischer and attended country school. On August 23, 1960, she married Wilbur T. Shepherd at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa. Following marriage the couple farmed in the Ollie area. They moved to Sigourney in 1973. Ruth then moved to Keswick in the late 1990's to be near her daughter. While in Sigourney, Ruth attended the Sigourney Christian Church. She enjoyed gardening, sewing, crocheting and riding her three-wheel bicycle. Survivors include her daughter: Charlene Hamilton and husband Danny of Keswick; three grandchildren: Larry Deitrich and wife Cindy of North English, Sabrina Watts and husband Andy of Waseca, Minnesota and Shelly Hofer and husband Jeff of Hampton; six great grandchildren; twin sister: Rubie Raben of Lone Tree; brother: Bill Cherones of Portland, Oregon and dog: Bo Diddly. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband: Wilbur in 1987 and daughter: Marlene. Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 11, 2007, at the Reynolds-Powell Funeral Chapel in Sigourney with Rev. Jim Bringman officiating. Burial will be at Pennington Cemetery in rural Sigourney. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Monday, December 10, 2007, at the funeral home. A general memorial fund has been established. Reynolds-Powell Funeral Chapel and Cremation Service in Sigourney is handling the arrangements.
