Ruby M. Campbell, 88, of Mt. Pleasant, IA, died Sunday, February 1, 2009, at Park Place in Mt. Pleasant. Graveside services for Mrs. Campbell will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, February 5, 2009, at the Forest Home Cemetery with Mr. Steve Messer officiating. A light lunch will follow at the home of her son, Roger Campbell. Friends may sign the register from noon until 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 4, 2009, at the Olson - Powell Memorial Chapel. In lieu of flowers memorials have been established to the Rome Baptist Church. Born in Henry County, IA, the daughter of Lee Roy and Cora Alice Fickle Scarff, Ruby Marie was born on April 1, 1920. She attended Fairview Country School and was a 1937 Mt. Pleasant High School graduate. She graduated from American Institute of Business in Des Moines. Ruby married Robert M. Campbell on September 8, 1937, in Kahoka, MO. He survives. Using her secretarial training, Ruby worked at the Iowa Army Ammunition Plant during World War II and at the Mental Health Institute in Mt. Pleasant for 21 years. Ruby attended Rome Baptist Church. She was one of the first crafters at Midwest Old Threshers and was an auxiliary member for many years. She typed their first cookbook. Ruby was an avid reader and kept a daily diary. Along with her husband, Robert, Mrs. Campbell is survived by a daughter, Marilee and her husband Merlin Donnolly of Mt. Pleasant, IA; a son, Roger Campbell of Mt. Pleasant, IA; a sister Helen Bouge of Bellevue, NE; and a sister-in-law, Phyllis Hendricks of Mt. Pleasant, IA. She is also survived by six grandchildren, fifteen great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandson. Mrs. Campbell was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Ada Hendricks and Lois Johnson; an infant brother, George Edward Scarff; a daughter-in-law, Patricia Campbell; and a great-granddaughter, Sarah Donnolly.
