Ross Eugene Doty, age 88 of Brooklyn, passed away Tuesday, July 9, 2019, at Iowa Lutheran Hospital in Des Moines. Funeral service: 10:30 a.m., Monday, July 15, 2019, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Malcom with Pastor Catherine Burroughs officiating. Burial will be in Trinity Lutheran Cemetery, Malcom. Visitation: 9:30 a.m. until service time, Monday, July 15, 2019, at Trinity Lutheran Church, Malcom. Memorials may be contributed to the family in Ross’s name. Kloster Funeral Home, Brooklyn, assisted the family with arrangements.
Ross is survived by three sisters Joan Foster, of Cedar Rapids, Lucy (Dick) King, of Warr Acres, OK and Kay Dieterich, of Brooklyn; a brother Marvin (Mary) Doty, of Grinnell; and special friends Zettie and Ron Demerley and family of Hoboken, GA. He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Beulah in 2006, three brothers Abel, Daryl and Dale, and three sisters Cora Mae, Vivian and Gladys.
Ross was born April 12, 1931, in rural Poweshiek County, the son of Glenn and Pearl (Jewell) Doty. He attended country schools and farmed with his father. He served in the U.S. Army from 1957-1960. Upon his return from the Army, he was united in marriage to Fern Frizzel. The couple later divorced. He married Beulah Berstler on April 16, 1974 in North English. The couple made their home in Michigan and Florida, before returning to Iowa to farm. Ross was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Malcom. He enjoyed gardening. Ross especially loved watching westerns on T.V and family gatherings.
