Ronald L. “Tex” Heitmann, age 73, of South Amana, passed away Tuesday, September 21, 2021 doing what he loved, surrounded by the friends he loved. Visitation: 1 to 3 p.m., Sunday, September 26, 2021, at the Main Amana Church Fellowship Hall, Main Amana. Funeral Service: 2:00 p.m., Monday, September 27, 2021 at the Main Amana Church, Main Amana, with Elder Kristie Yoder officiating. Burial will be in the South Amana Cemetery with military honors. A memorial fund has been established. Kloster Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements. Masks are required to be worn within the Main Amana Church.

Ron is survived by his wife Deb; a daughter Elise (Trin), of Main Amana; a sister Rhonda, of South Amana; a sister-in-law Judy, of Reno, Nevada; his mother-in-law Mary L., of Homestead; a brother-in-law Gary (Mary), of Upper South Amana; a niece Julia (Bryce), of East Amana; a nephew William (Jamie), of Homestead. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother Richard, father-in-law Jerry, a brother-in-law Steven and a nephew Ryan.

Ron was born May 23, 1948, in Grinnell, the son of Karl and Arlene (DeVilder) Heitmann. He graduated from HLV High School in 1966. Ron continued his education at Clinton College, before serving in the U.S. Army for two years, during the Vietnam War. Upon returning home, Ron attended Iowa State University and received his degree in Electrical Engineering. While attending ISU, he was recruited by Glen Anderson to play basketball. Ron was united in marriage to Deb Wolter in 1992 at St. John’s Lutheran Church, in Homestead. His first job was making scoreboards for a company in Brooklyn. Later he was employed by Collins Radio, Amana Refrigeration and Alliant Energy, retiring from there in 2011. Ron was a member of the Amana Church.

Ron had a wide variety of interests and participated in many organizations. He worked for the Amana Heritage Society at the High Amana General Store. Ron was a member of the Hawk A Model A Club where he was past president and held several offices. He was also the past president of the Amana Sportsman Club. Ron was a member of the Stammtisch Riding Guild and a past member of the Iowa Long Rifle Association. He coached trap shooting at Clear Creek Amana High School and co-founded the Kolonie Kubb in 2015.
