Ronald Earle Hartzler was born January 13, 1920 in rural Parnell, Iowa the son of Herbert and Emma (Swartzendruber) Hartzler. He attended Oakland country school. On September 17, 1941 he was united in marriage to Anna Mae Miller in rural Kalona. They made their home in the Kalona community where Ron farmed. He was a member of the Lower Deer Creek Mennonite Church. Ron died on Friday, November 9, 2007 at Parkview Manor in Wellman following a long illness at the age of 87 years. Ron is survived by his wife Anna Mae Hartzler of Kalona; two sons - Galen Hartzler of Iowa City; Donald Hartzler and wife Linda of Kalona; a step son - Clayton Wenger and wife Ethel of Sebring, Florida; eight grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; three brothers - Herbert Hartzler, Jr. and wife Dorothy of Kalona; Larry Hartzler and wife Carolyn of Triangle, Virginia; Robert Hartzler of Wasilla, Alaska; and four sisters - Marietta Yoder of Iowa City; Judith Wiese of Franktown, Colorado; Ruth Southwick and husband Don of Roswell, New Mexico; and Wilma Hankins and husband Bill of Matthews, North Carolina. He was preceded in death by his parents and 2 brothers Vernon and Gene.
In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established for the Lower Deer Creek Mennonite Church.
