Ronald C. "Bill" McClure

Ronald Bill McClure, 73, of Mt. Pleasant, IA, died Sunday, December 2, 2012, at Great River Hospice House in West Burlington, IA. An open visitation will be held from 12 noon to 6 p.m. on Tuesday, December 4, 2012, at the Olson - Powell Memorial Chapel. There will be no family visitation time. A funeral service will be on Wednesday, December 5th, at 10:00 a.m. at the Memorial Chapel with Pastor David Forrester officiating. Interment will be at the White Oak Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established for Great River Hospice and White Oak Cemetery. Born July 26, 1939, in Henry County, Ronald Carlos "Bill" McClure was the son of Carlos and Mildred (Fields) McClure. Bill attended the Vinton and Des Moines Schools for the Blind. On April 4, 1965, he married Elaine Vorhies at the Trenton Missionary Church, Trenton, IA. She preceded him in death on January 14, 2000. Bill worked as a car detailer at various car dealers including Shafer Motors and McWhirter's. He retired from McWhirter's in 2001 after 29 years of service. Besides his love of classic cars, Bill was known for his ability to fix bicycles. He enjoyed listening to books on tape, especially westerns written by Louis L'Amour and Zane Grey. He loved listening to country music, and liked to sing. A thoughtful and kind man, Bill loved to share memories of his family and tell stories. Survivors include two sons, Jerry (Rhonda) McClure of Mt. Pleasant and Steve McClure of Rome, IA; two grand-daughters, Jennifer (Eric) Carlsen and Jessica (Mark) Lanman all of Mt. Pleasant; three great-grand children, Nicholas and Zoey Carlsen, and Pierce Lanman; two brothers, Dick (Barb) McClure of Burlington, IA and John (Julie) McClure of Michigan; and four sisters, Joan (Pete) Messer and Phyllis (Bob) Scarff all of Mt. Pleasant, Mary (Ray) Gerst of Mediapolis, and Betty (Ken) Burden of New London. Along with his cherished wife, Elaine, Bill is preceded in death by his parents; and one sister Margaret Ann McClure.
