KEOTA-Roger "Pete" Wright, age 71, of Keota, died Wednesday, February 15, 2012, at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota. Pete was born December 17, 1940, in Washington, Iowa, to Francis and Elizabeth (Sherbeck) Wright and graduated from Keota High School in 1959. On August 4, 1963 he married Phyllis Wittman at the Lutheran Church of the Resurrection in Marion, Iowa. The couple lived and farmed in the Keota area until moving into Keota in 1984. Pete worked at River Products until his retirement in 2004. He enjoyed reading Louis L'Amour books, dancing, watching Westerns, listening to Elvis and Johnny Cash, his love of teasing his many dogs throughout the years, camping, fishing and spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren. Survivors include his wife: Phyllis of Keota; sons: Brad Wright and partner Eric Felty of St. Louis, Missouri, Brian Wright and wife Crystial of Keota; daughter: Paula Wright of Keota; five granddaughters: Erica (Chet) Cave, Leah (Trevor) Hayes, Taylor Wright, Erin Wright and Ellen Wright; two great grandchildren: Porter and Hadley Cave; five siblings: Marie Mayer of Colorado, Dave Wright of Keota, Marge Van Sickle of Keota, Dick "Richard" Wright of Nevada, Holly Wold of Harpers Ferry, Iowa; mother-in-law: Mable Wittman of Keota and beloved dog, Bailee. He was preceded in death by his parents and father-in-law: Carroll Wittman. Memorial services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, February 18, 2012, at Powell Funeral Home in Keota, with Rev. Dennis Hopes officiating. Burial of cremated remains will be at Keota Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. on Friday, February 17, 2012, at the funeral home. A memorial fund has been established for the Keota Foundation or the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. Powell Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Keota is caring for Pete and his family.
