Roger M. Slagell of Mt. Pleasant, IA, died Friday, February 22, 2008, in the Emergency Room at the Henry County Health Center. According to his wishes Mr. Slagell's body has been cremated. Visitation will be held on Thursday, February 28, 2008, beginning after 12 noon, at the Olson - Powell Memorial Chapel, where the family will greet friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. that evening. A memorial service will be on Friday, February 29, 2008, at 1:00 p.m., at the Olson - Powell Memorial Chapel, with the Rev. Pat Youngquist officiating. Memorials have been established to the First United Methodist Church in Mt. Pleasant. The son of Roy and Lavina Roeschley Slagell, Roger was born in northern Illinois. He graduated from Flanagan High School. Roger married Betty Logsdon in Springfield, Illinois. Roger farmed with his brother after high school. For many years he was a district sales manager for Mastermix Feeds, and continued in that career with Protein Blenders based out of Iowa City. As a young man, Roger sang in a gospel quartet, The Messengers. He was a golfer, a member of the Avenue of the Saints Wood Carvers Club, and a 4-H leader for many years. For over 40 years, Roger was a member of the Lion's Club, where he served as president in both Strawberry Point and Mt. Pleasant. Most of all, Roger enjoyed his family, golfing with his sons and playing cards and fishing with his grandsons. Along with his wife, Betty, Roger is survived by son Doug Slagell and his wife Becky, along with their two sons Kyle and Collin, all of Illinois and son Jeff Slagell and his son Christopher, both of Mississippi. He is also survived by brother Del Slagell, sister Myrna Park, sister-in-law Ruth Slagell, and three nephews all of Illinois. Roger was preceded in death by a brother, Bob Slagell.
